05 Aug VAT Program expands in China from 1 August

The China Ministry of Finance (MOF) and State Administration of Taxation (SAT) issued a circular on May 24, 2013, announcing the expansion of the Value-Added Tax (VAT) Reform Pilot on a nationwide basis.  Certain revisions to the pilot regulations in this nationwide application of the VAT program will result in a 6% VAT charge assessed on transportation charges and freight forwarding services billed and paid in China.

Customs ramp up export inspections at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN)

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) is the main airport of Guangzhou. In 2012 Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport was China’s third busiest for cargo traffic.

Currently customs based at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport terminal has increased their level of inspections of air cargo for export. They are targeting shippers who are attempting to export cargo without a licence. Cargo that does not have valid export licence is being held by customs and cannot be exported until a licence is arranged.
