14 Oct DP WORLD – STACK RUN PHASE OUT
FCL Stack run ins and outs will be phased out by 1 Jan 2026.
Individual slots will be the only resource available to pick up and drop off units. From Jan 1 the slot cap will be removed entirely.
By moving to this format for all carriers no matter their business scale, it will enable the entire industry to have access to the full allocation of slots in the exchange for FCL units with no slot volume restrictions per zone, it will allow a freedom and flexibility of access to slots not seen at DPW WST before for all carriers in the industry.
DPW WST can eliminate the ‘slot wastage’ that occurs with stack runs and it will help plan a more effective road operation to further reduce truck turn times.
It will assist DPW with compliance and transparency for Department of Transport and Planning, the ACCC and the wider carrier industry by being able to see all the slots in the exchange for FCL units.
Carriers will have complete control and responsibility for their business into and out of, the terminal. Carriers will be referred to the exchange by Landside staff for any slot requests.
This will mean that those carriers who attempt to ‘hoard slots’ and find themselves with excess slots to their requirement will be subject to no show penalties if those slots listed are not taken by another carrier.
Carriers will need to monitor the R&D schedule closely, vessel schedule volatility is a well-known issue, we would advise carriers to be cautious in the acquisition of slots to avoid being ‘caught’ with an abundance of slots that the remainder of the industry does not require to avoid potential no show penalties.
We must stress this does not mean the overall volume shift to shift will increase. DPW will still plan for 3000 moves per 24hrs and that will not change. Simply the mix of how this represented to the industry will change. As the stack run volume will be folded into the VBS exchange. Please don’t confuse the two.
Should you need any information regarding your shipments, please discuss directly with your local CIF Transport Operator.
